If You’re Going to See One Movie this Year, Frozen 2 is It

It’s November, but I finally saw my first movie of 2019. I would have gone for a full straight year mostly out of apathy, but there was one movie that could get me out of my desk chair and into one of those plush movie theater recliners: Frozen 2.

I LOVED the first Frozen movie with the passion of a three-year-old wearing an Elsa wig and gown. I wasn’t even nervous about Frozen 2 living up to the hype; I knew it would be awesome and it was. Plus, the princesses wear pants! (I didn’t make note of this until afterward when reading about it.)

Don’t worry if you forgot some of the details from Frozen, Olaf helps bring everyone up to speed on the sisters’ saga. Olaf’s humor was a little more refined this time, making both me and my 13-year-old son laugh.

There were more songs this time around – or at least it felt like there was more singing. The songs are catchy enough to be sung by little kids for the next few months, but nothing felt quite as big as Let it Go.

You know those moments in life where you learn something new to you and then suddenly you see that one thing everywhere. I had that moment during Frozen 2 when Anna sang about the next right thing. When overwhelmed, I’ve been trying to remind myself to simply do the next right thing. Suddenly, I’m seeing this on the big screen as Anna takes the same advice. She follows that advice better than I do because sometimes my next right thing is starring at Instagram for an hour. She doesn’t do that.

Frozen 2 has been described as darker than the first, but that wasn’t my take. If your child can handle Frozen, they can handle Frozen 2.

Yes, your kids will want to see it and they’ll love it. When we walked out of the theater, my 13-year-old son proclaimed it as great and he backed that up with some of his favorite scenes, so I know it wasn’t only the giant tub of popcorn that shaped his opinion.
