Saying Goodbye to Los Altos’ Helix this Weekend

lovey-e1416020652595Helix, one of the highlights of the downtown Los Altos revival, will shut down at the end of the month. The good news is that the Exploratorium’s community science center plans to go out with a bang, featuring some of their most popular hands-on exhibits in this weekend.

Helix made interactive science more accessible during its year in Los Altos, bringing innovative exhibits to the suburbs without the fairly steep price of a ticket to the Exploratorium. Also, it served as a convenient destination for school field trips. With only 25 exhibits, the smaller space allowed for more focus, rather than trying to see everything in the much larger Exploratorium.

The It’s a Wrap event will include dissecting squid, color shadow play, print-making, and soft circuits. The full schedule is on the Helix website. Helix is closed Thanksgiving, but will be open Friday 2 – 4 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m., Saturday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m., and Sunday 11 .m. to 4 p.m. Admission, as always, is pay as you wish.
