San Francisco is the latest lucky stop on the KaBOOM! Play Together Tour, aimed at fostering family fun and active play around the country. With the stress and chaos of the new school year underway, a brief family time out will restore those smiles and bring everyone together.
Togetherness with active play is exactly the point of Disney Parks’ powered KaBOOM! multi-city pop up event with team-building stations, games that build mental and physical play prowess, and an incredible family-friendly obstacle course. The event is totally free and runs both days this weekend from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. To help keep crowds manageable, participants are asked to register for specific times to try out the obstacle course. Costumes to show off team spirit are encouraged!
The family fun is all happening at Marina Middle School at 3500 Filmore Street in San Francisco.
We all know that most kids spend a lot less free time outside than our generation did at their age. According to KaBoom, since the late 1970s, kids lost 12 hours of free time per week and experienced a 25% decrease in play and a 50% decrease in unstructured outdoor activities (Juster, 2004). We all know the benefits of play – it helps with exercise, imagination, its a stress and emotional release, and can help kids work through different situations – but sometimes we need a reminder to have fun. Show off your mad family team skills this weekend and use this as a boost to ensure that play maintains an important role in busy lives.
