This weekend, all kinds of fun outdoor activities will be happening around San Mateo County, with most free to participants. San Francisco routinely does park and neighborhood events and while San Mateo County will shut down Canada Road for Bicycle Sundays, and expanding the welcome to get out and be active is a great idea.
2014 Streets Alive! Parks Alive! highlights include:
Hike Wunderlick Park in Woodside with park rangers and volunteers on Saturday morning. Hikes begin at 9 a.m. with one-mile and three-mile options.
It’s Kite Day in Menlo Park on Saturday! Come to Bedwell-Bayfront Park on Marsh Road with your own kite or buy one on site for $6, which is a super bargain because it also includes a hot dog, drink and a snack. The high-flying fun is from noon to 3 p.m.
San Mateo, Foster City and Belmont, along with Coyote Point Park, are hosting a costumed Ride in Disguise along the Bay Trail from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday. The route begins at Coyote Point Park and ends at Belmont Sports Complex, but participants can start and stop any place along the trail. The total trail is approximately 9.5 miles, and accessible to all ages whether on bike, scooter or walking. Check out the natural habitat, bayside parks and fun activities along the way, including Ryder Park, recharge stations along the trail, and the Belmont Sports Complex.
Brink Pool in Pacifica will be open both days for fun family recreation from 1 – 3 p.m.
