Most of us have heard about Team in Training, which is a super awesome way to help people train for a big physical endurance test, but for those on the couch-to-5K plan, it’s a little out of our range. Now comes the answer: Moms in Training aimed at getting moms of all ages trained and running a 5K, brought to you by the same Team in Training people. It’s a short-term commitment, with the optional 5K happening in June, and with training designed around mom schedules with workouts on Saturdays. In fact, stroller runs are encouraged.
The program is open to all moms, but new moms may benefit the most from the stroller-friendly outings and ability to meet other moms while they get exercise that is hard to fit in when dealing with young kids (not including all the toddler wrangling). Kids are welcome, as long as they can stay in a stroller. It’s the same level of support for those planning to run a marathon, but with a much more achievable goal for busy moms who may have gotten out of running or may be ready to take the next step toward running with a support team behind them. Another bonus is that much like with Team in Training, it supports the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
The program begins April 12, culminating in optional end of session runs June 22 at See Jane Run 5K Walk and Stroller Stride in Alameda. Saturday workouts last approximately 60-75 minutes and consist of running, walking, cross-training and stretching. The nine-week program is open to moms around the Bay Area, from the North Bay to Santa Cruz. It’s nine weeks. You can do nine weeks.
