If you haven’t had a chance to see Girl Rising, then tonight is your night. If you have seen it, tonight is a chance to support female empowerment, locally and globally, even without leaving your house.
Today, 12 different countries and organizations are holding back-to-back screenings and meetups to view Girl Rising on International Women’s Day. San Francisco is headquarters to the event, with the main portion beginning at 6:30 p.m. with Virginia Campo, founder of the International Girl Rise-A-Thon campaign and Women Entrepreneurs Collaborating, follwed by Laura Roberts from Girl Rising. The film screening should begin at 7:15 p.m. and will be followed by Not for Sale, a featured San Francisco organization to discuss female empowerment, how they work to protect those at-risk to human trafficking, and how others can assist them. Also, there will be an open mic where sponsors Google, Causes, Intel and Girls in Tech, and other partners will tell what they are doing to help empower women.
If you can’t make it to the city, the event will be live streamed over a Google hangout. Also, follow along on Twitter @girlriseathon and using the hashtags #girlriseathon #IWD2014.
The San Francisco event is free and is happening at Cause headquarters on 4th Street. While the event is free, registration is requested.
