We haven’t had a television for over seven months while our house has been remodeled, but in brief spurts, we’ve had access to on demand programing at my sister’s house. Very quickly, we’ve all come to discover one show that has become our favorite: Adventure Time.
There is something oddly relaxing about this odd, yet interesting show. Maybe because it feels like it’s written for stoners, although I Googled that only to find that Regular Show is written for stoners, while Adventure Time is for people on acid. I stand corrected. Regardless, neither appeal to the rave crowd like Yo Gabba Gabba. The themes are sometimes trippy, like when they discovered magic dolls, which were smaller characters representing the main Adventure Time group. The interference led to weird things, odd relationships, and hurt feelings, which led to trying to find a way to make it better. Okay, that was the worst description of a creative episode that was riveting for both me and my kids.
Adventure Time is creative and amusing, and nothing really horribly violent happens. The main characters have good hearts and they always live. The stories are unpredictable and subtly funny. The characters are colorful. It’s the kind of show that I would watch even without my kids around. I love this show, even though I’m pretty certain that a 40-year-old mom is not their key demographic.
