Are you hoping that Santa brings your child diapers for Christmas? What if diapers were such a financial strain that diapers would be the best gift you could receive? For some moms, this is the reality. Diapers aren’t covered by WIC vouchers or food stamps and – as any mom knows – the cost of those buggers adds up fast. Think back to that time where maybe you were out in public and found yourself out of diapers, which meant hoping that your child’s diaper held until you could get home. Being out of diapers sucks. They can’t be reused and when they are done, they are done.
Our friend Amy is trying to help this season by running a diaper and donation drive for Help a Mother Out. She’s collecting diapers and donations toward diapers through this Saturday. Giving a little will help a lot. It’s also the perfect place for those excess diapers left behind once your child moved up to the next size (the box can be open, as long as the plastic is intact).
Being in the position of choosing between diapers and food is a no win situation. Food is the more pressing need, meaning that diapers can’t be changed as frequently as they should be, causing health problems. Help a Mother Out was started by a Bay Area mom and has had great success helping those in need. For more statistics on the program, need, and a success story, visit Amy’s blog Using Our Words.
