Simba Saturdays Take Over the Union Square Ice Rink

Can’t get enough of The Lion King? Skate in Union Square every Saturday this month listening to your favorite songs from the musical. During Simba Saturdays, kids can make their own masks, then skate to the Lion King music on the ice rink lit up in gold.

The Safeway Holiday Ice Rink in Union Square presented by Alaska Airlines (got all that?) is open through Jan. 21 in the gorgeous Union Square, presenting a great family day out of shopping and skating…or skating while mom is shopping.

Open daily with 10 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. (with a few exceptions for private events, please check their calendar for specifics), skating sessions last 90 minutes, with ticket prices at $10 for general admission and $6 for children eight and under. Skate rental is $5 or you can bring your own. The rink stays open in light rain, but may close during heavy downpours.

Simba Saturdays are only for December, but the musical continues on at the Orpheum Theatre through January 13. Check out our suggestions for taking children to see The Lion King, especially if  you’re wondering if your young child can handle the show.
