The Back to School Sick Has Hit Our Home

by Kimberly Kauer on September 27, 2012

My kids start school late, which means that even before their first day, I saw friends on Facebook complaining about back-to-school illnesses. Most kids caught a cold, some had other standard illnesses, but there was always disappointment that school had just started, and their kid was already taking a sick day.

My kids were in their second week when my throat started to feel funny. No amount of vitamin C and liquids was able to stop this cold. I’m now on day six, and it’s getting better for me, but our house remains under the weather. Everyone except my son – knock on wood – has the cold. It seems like just as we adjusted our sleep schedule to accommodate school, our sleep was disrupted by stuffy noses and nagging coughs. Everyone is tired and grumpy again.

I can’t remember the last time we got a back-to-school illness, so I guess it was our time. The other day, a lice notice went home. I can handle a cold, but back-to-school lice is much, much worse.
