Ever wish your kids could experience what it would be like to send an afternoon in the famously all-American TV-town of Mayberry? Play outside all day and go fishing with Opie. With the world of high-tech, what’s the likelihood that our kids even know what it’s like to really fish? If there isn’t an app for it, they just aren’t that interested.
Take a moment to make a Mayberry moment of your own. One that involves a real fishing pole. There’s nothing here that starts with a lower case “i”.
The City of Oakley will be hosting the Kids Fishing Derby on Saturday, August 11 at the Antioch/Oakley pier off of Bridgehead Rd. The Derby is for children age 2 – 15. Registration is free. Pre-registration is not required but is available at City Hall. Registration is from 8 – 9am, the derby runs from 9 – 11am. The catch and release derby gives kids a chance to compete for the largest and smallest fish and most fish caught. A free hot-dog lunch will be served following the event.
Try to get your kids excited about a different kind of wire this weekend. Unplug and get hooked.
