Yesterday marked exactly one month until school begins. My son goes to a school in San Jose Unified – the school that seems to start and end before all other districts in Silicon Valley. This summer has seemed even more packed than usual with two swim teams, summer camps, bike rides, trips to the beach, and about a million statements of “I’m bored,” or “There is nothing to do,” from my son and the neighborhood kids.
So today, when I looked at the calendar and realized that school starts in a month, I did a little happy dance inside. My son is having the best summer of his life. We spent two weeks in Hawaii. He had a camp experience with Galileo Learning that only the Greek Gods could have orchestrated. We’ve gone to Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk and Raging Waters. We’ve played at our local cabana pool practically every day. There’s been countless bike rides and a couple of evenings at Music in the Park.
All to say, while my son is thrilled with his summer of endless fun… I am totally and utterly exhausted.
While Back to School supplies cropping up at Target and Office Depot, I’m thrilled that summer is about to end. I’m sure I’ll miss getting to spend so much time with my son when school actually does start. But until then, I’ll be counting down the days until I get to drop my new third grader off at school.
Only 29 more days to go!
