Future Olympians Swimming at Far Westerns

My son, a year round swimmer, wants to be the next Michael Phelps.  While it would be awesome to have an Olympian in the family, I can’t help but think of Phelps’s mother and the sacrifices that she must have made to help make his dreams come true.  The multiple practices a day.  The carpooling.  The 2-day competitions on the weekends. When Michael earned his first Gold Medal, then his mother should have received one in Platinum.

This weekend the Morgan Hill Aquatics Center will be home to Far Westerns, an impressive four-day event hosted by my son’s swim team, QuickSilver Swimming.  Michael Phelps once swam in this event and still holds a record.  What’s awesome is that Phelps once had more records… that means that the next generation of swimmers may one day be faster than Michael Phelps.  I can’t wait to see what the 2016 or 2020 Olympic games brings.

I get chills thinking that swimmers who will be at Far Westerns this weekend may be swimming in Rio de Janeiro in four years.

Far Westerns is open and free to the public.  Programs are available at minimal cost.  You can also watch streaming of the competition on swimmingworld.tv  for a fee.
