When Kyle Williams fumbled the ball in overtime, everyone knew it was over. I held my breath, hoping one of the Giants would drop the ball or the kicker would slip, but it didn’t happen, and the 49ers lost. It was sad, for sure, but it’s hard to be upset.
This was supposed to be yet another rebuilding year, with a new coach and and unsteady quarterback, but it was almost everything. I started the season hoping the 49ers wold finish with a winning record, then it was entry to the playoffs, followed by an earned playoffs bye, then – remarkably – the division championship. With my whole heart, I wanted them to go to the Superbowl, yet even though that isn’t happening, I am so grateful for the season the 49ers gave us. When the 49ers beat New Orleans, a group of fans in the nosebleed seats unrolled a banner that said, “We are back!” It’s true, we’re back, and that is almost as good as a Superbowl ring.
